Hill
of Tarvit Mansion
Home
to an outstanding collection of European paintings, furniture
and tapestries, Hill of Tarvit Mansion is perhaps the finest
Edwardian mansion in Scotland.
Lying close to St Andrews,
Hill of Tarvit Mansion is a home of outstanding beauty.
Built by the Dundee financier
and jute merchant Frederick Bower Sharp to house his internationally
important collection of paintings and furniture, Hill of Tarvit
Mansion is the epitome of Edwardian elegance. Harnessing the
talents of only the very finest craftsmen, Sharp commissioned
Robert Lorimer, the most eminent architect of his day, to
design the house.
Situated on a gently
rising hill in one of the most picturesque corners of Scotland,
Hill of Tarvit Mansion is a hugely appealing country home,
its ivy-covered façade a testament to the designers
art. Inside, a series of rooms show the elegant, unobtrusive
detailing that gives prominence to Sharps precious collections.
The focal point of the
house is The Great Hall. This splendid room, decorated with
16th-century Flemish tapestries, makes a stunning venue for
receptions and ceremonies and boats uninterrupted views across
the pastoral Howe of Fife. Sharing the same enviable outlook
is the dining Room, reached by the delightful vaulted ceiling
corridor. This room must be one of the finest for miles around
and, as befits a space designed for entertaining, makes a
particularly attractive venue for intimate dinner parties.
Outside, Hill of Tarvit
Mansions manicured lawns and beautiful gardens, punctuated
by sweeping staircases and mature trees, are a perfect location
for a marquee, perhaps for that romantic wedding youve
always dreamed of.
