Kellie
castle
Located
just a few miles from St Andrews, Kellie Castle is a delightful
gabled 14th-century home. Set in gardens bursting with colour.
This is a Scottish castle sprung from the pages of history.
Idyllic, atmospheric,
Kellie Castle is a Scottish venue with a timeless appeal.
First mention of the
Kellie lands goes as far back as 1150 in a history that, through
the ancestry of the Siward and Oliphant families, embraces
Macbeth, Edward I and Robert the Bruce.
In the centuries that followed, the castles successive
owners each put their personal stamp on the property.
A tour through the castle
is like a tour through time. Wandering from tower to tower,
you feel the centuries slip away on a journey of discovery
that spans the 14th to the 17th centuries. And it is in this
latter era that we find the castles most handsome rooms,
beautifully restored by the Lorimer family in the late 19th
century.
Perhaps the most handsome
of all is the Great Hall, a misleading name for what is actually
an immensely impressive drawing room. Large and imposing,
with elegant plasterwork and grand fireplaces, the Great Hall
makes a splendid backdrop for important corporate events of
spectacular weddings.
For Kellie Castle could
almost have been made for weddings, its beautiful walled gardens
making a particularly romantic spot for reception marquees
and photographs. For the ceremony itself, Kellie Castle has
its own tiny chapel in the north-west tower, dating from the
beginning of the 16th century; a charming, intimate setting
for your most important day.
Along with its picturesque
charms, Kellie Castle has a fascinating history, which can
be explored during private evening tours.
