Falkland
Palace
For
centuries Falkland Palace lay at the very heart of Scotland's
history. Kings and Queens of the Stuart Dynasty relaxed in
its beautiful grounds, away from the cares of state. Today,
it still remains rich in atmosphere and tranquillity.
In the heart of its own
Royal Burgh, Falkland Palace is a venue of pure majesty and
romance.
Rising from the ruins
of an early medieval castle, Falkland Palace - a masterpiece
of Renaissance architecture - became one of the most important
royal residences in Scotland. It was home to successive generations
of the Stuarts, including James IV, Mary, Queen of Scots and
her son James VI.
Nesting amid gentle countryside,
a short distance from St Andrews and Dundee, Falkland Palace
was always more of a relaxed country house than a fortified
stronghold. Here kings, queens and courtiers would engage
in intellectual and sporting pursuits, taking long strolls
in the palace gardens to discuss the issues of the day.
Entering the grounds
through the imposing gatehouse, guests experience an immediate
sense of the rich, regal atmosphere of the palace. It would
be hard to imagine a more romantic spot for a wedding or a
more impressive location for a corporate event. Here, in the
shadow of the palace walls, you can enjoy an exclusive reception
in a marquee set amid walled gardens, in a breathtaking setting
steeped in history.
Outside the walls, the
charming village of Falkland is a preserved royal burgh where
gabled cottages and historic inns share quiet lanes with the
local parish church and the Victorian town hall, itself a
great location for intimate ceremonies or receptions.
