Culzean
Castle
The
final masterpiece of the most famous architect of his day,
Robert Adams Culzean Castle is one of the most loved
buildings in Scotland. Set in nearly 600 acres of stunning
countryside, peppered with gardens both manicured and wild,
charming follies aplenty and miles of woodland paths, Culzean
took Adam over fifteen years to perfect.
Originally dating from
around 1590, Adam took an essentially modest tower house and
transformed into an extraordinary bachelors residence
for the 10th Earl of Cassillis. Adams mastery of material
and form has given us a castle that seems almost impossibly
romantic, outrageously grand.
Of course, it is precisely
these qualities that makes Culzean such a sought-after venue
for prestigious corporate events and spectacular wedding parties.
Entering by the magnificent Oval staircase, the possibilities
at Culzean are almost endless: a formal dinner in the elegant
Dining Room; a reception in the breathtakingly beautiful circular
Saloon; a wedding ceremony in the Roe Garden; a marquee event
on the lawn; or an exclusive gathering in the delicate glass
Camellia House in the castle gardens.
To add to the air of
exclusivity, you can also hire the wonderful Eisenhower Apartment,
gifted to the US President in recognition of his role during
the Second World War. This six-bedroom apartment is run rather
like a private country house hotel and is the perfect location
for a honeymoon or luxury executive retreat.
Located close to Prestwick
Airport and the golfing resorts of Troon and Turnberry, this
ultimate romantic hideaway is within easy reach of the real
world outside.
